Czech contains numerous special characters with diacritics — č, ř, š, ž, á, é, í, ó, ú, ů, ý, ě, ň, ď, ť — that must be handled correctly in both directions of translation. When translating from Czech to English, personal names are transliterated according to the spelling shown on the individual's passport or official identity document. Czech female surnames with the -ová suffix are rendered as shown in the source document, with a translator's note explaining the convention if needed. Place names follow standard international conventions (e.g., Praha/Prague, Brno, Plzeň/Pilsen). When translating into Czech, our translators apply correct diacritics and háčky/čárky throughout. Under EU Regulation 2016/1191, the Czech Republic issues multilingual standard forms (vícejazyčné formuláře) for certain civil status documents that can be used in other EU member states without translation. For non-EU countries (United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, etc.), multilingual EU forms are not accepted and a full certified translation is required. Even within the EU, some authorities still request a complete translation for complex documents.
