Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba — collectively known as the BES Islands or Caribbean Netherlands (Caribisch Nederland) — are three special municipalities of the Netherlands (openbare lichamen) located in the southern and northern Caribbean. They became part of the Netherlands directly on 10 October 2010 following the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles.
Each island has a distinct linguistic character. Bonaire is primarily Papiamento-speaking — the same Portuguese- and Spanish-based Creole language spoken in Aruba and Curaçao — alongside Dutch as the official administrative language. Sint Eustatius and Saba are primarily English-speaking, reflecting their different colonial history as former British territories. Dutch serves as the official language of administration for all three islands, creating a multilingual document environment where official forms may be in Dutch while vernacular annotations or community-facing documents may be in Papiamento or English.
This trilingual character creates unique translation challenges for residents of the BES Islands who need their documents certified for international use. DoVisa's network covers all three primary languages of the BES Islands — Dutch, Papiamento, and English — and translates from and into over 100 other languages. Whether a Bonaire resident needs their Papiamento-annotated Dutch birth certificate translated into English for USCIS, or a Saban resident needs their English-language employment records translated into Dutch for Dutch mainland purposes, DoVisa provides certified translations with the precision required by international authorities.
