Sri Lanka Tourist Visa
Apply online for your Sri Lanka Tourist Visa (ETA) before travel — processed quickly via the official ETA portal with DoVisa guidance and support.
What Is the Sri Lanka Tourist Visa?
The Sri Lanka Tourist Visa is an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) issued by the Department of Immigration & Emigration of Sri Lanka for short tourism visits. Introduced as an online ETA system with effect from 1 January 2012, the ETA replaced many paper-based visa-on-arrival procedures to speed up border processing and allow travellers to secure authorisation before departure. The ETA is managed through the official government portal at eta.gov.lk and is issued by the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Colombo.
Applicants complete an online application on the official ETA portal or use authorised services like DoVisa for guided completion and document checks. Once approved you receive an electronic approval notice sent by email — save the approval PDF/confirmation and the reference number; airlines commonly verify ETA status at check-in and immigration officers check the approval on arrival at Sri Lankan ports. Typical receipts include an approval notice you can print or show on your phone.
The Sri Lanka Tourist Visa is an entry authorisation for short stays (default: 30 days) and is not a long-term residence permit. It must be obtained before travel unless you qualify to obtain an ETA on arrival at a port designated by immigration. Important recent policy news: a government announcement issued on 13 October 2025 revoked an earlier plan to make ETA mandatory from 15 October 2025 — the Department confirmed ETA services continue to operate as before and applicants should always check the official portal for live notices at eta.gov.lk.
For full entry rules and related visa options see Sri Lanka visa information and the official ETA portal. When you're ready, Apply for your Sri Lanka Tourist Visa now with guided help and document checks.

Travel Tips for Sri Lanka Visitors
Sri Lanka is an island nation in the Indian Ocean with rich cultural sites, beaches and tea country. Most international flights use Bandaranaike International Airport north of Colombo — plan transfers in advance.
- Airports: Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB); Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (HRI); Ratmalana Airport (RML); Batticaloa International Airport (BTC) for some international services.
- Currency: Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas but exchange locally for better rates.
- Language: Sinhala and Tamil are official; English is commonly used in hotels, tourist services and airports.
- Time zone: Sri Lanka Standard Time is GMT+5:30.
- Best time to visit: December to March for the west and south coasts; May to September for the east coast.
- Local customs: Dress respectfully at religious sites; remove shoes and cover shoulders when entering temples.
- Safety: Monitor local travel advice for demonstrations or regional restrictions and avoid restricted military areas in the north/east.
- Transfers: Book airport transfers early — domestic connections and taxi availability can be limited during peak periods.
