What Is the Nigeria Landing Card?
The Nigeria Landing Card is the mandatory digital landing (arrival) registration required by the Nigeria Immigration Service for all foreign passport holders entering the country. Introduced as part of Nigeria’s 2025 move to modernise border processing, the online landing and exit card system replaced paper arrival forms collected onboard aircraft and at immigration counters. The system is administered through the official lecard portal maintained by the Nigeria Immigration Service and was rolled out alongside the new e-visa infrastructure in 2025 to streamline arrival checks and reduce queue times.
Applicants complete the landing card at lecard.immigration.gov.ng or through DoVisa’s guided application. The portal asks for passport or visa details, personal information, contact details, travel itinerary and accommodation. After successful submission you receive a downloadable, printable confirmation (PDF) and a reference/confirmation code by email — keep a printed copy and an electronic copy ready for immigration checks and airline verification at check-in.
The Nigeria Landing Card is a pre-arrival registration and is distinct from a visa — it does not replace required entry visas where applicable. Immigration clearance and the permitted length of stay are decided by immigration officers at the port of entry. Important recent changes: Nigeria moved to mandatory online landing and exit card submissions during 2025; travellers are encouraged to complete the landing card before travel to avoid delays at arrival.
For full entry rules see Nigeria visa information and the official portal at lecard.immigration.gov.ng. When you're ready, Apply now to complete your landing card with expert guidance and document checks.

Nigeria Entry Requirements & Restrictions
Passport Validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival. Ensure you have blank pages for entry stamps and that your passport or visa numbers are entered exactly as shown on the travel document. See the Nigeria travel advice on GOV.UK.
Vaccination & Health Declaration
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required — check exemptions carefully. All travellers should also complete the Nigeria Health Declaration via healthapp.ncdc.gov.ng. Follow CDC guidance for recommended vaccines before travel.
Customs & Prohibited Items
Nigeria has strict import restrictions. Prohibited items include live or dead birds, pork and beef (selected goods), bird eggs, certain retail-pack medicaments and some food items. See the full import prohibition list at Nigeria Customs Service.
Travel Insurance & Medical Advice
Travel insurance, including medical evacuation cover, is strongly recommended. Health care outside major cities may be limited — bring prescription medicines in original packaging and a copy of the prescription.
Visa & Entry Clearance
Holding a valid visa when required is separate from the landing card. Immigration officers make final entry decisions at the port of entry — ensure your visa (if required), accommodation details and return/onward ticket are available for inspection.
Travel Tips for Nigeria Visitors
Nigeria is a large, diverse country with major international gateways in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt and Enugu. Main points to note for travellers:
- Currency: Nigerian Naira (NGN). US dollars (USD) may be accepted at major hotels and by some tour operators, but carry NGN for local purchases and transport.
- Language: English is the official language and is widely used for travel, government and business; many regional languages are spoken across the country.
- Time zone: GMT+1 (West Africa Time).
- Main airports & transfers: Plan transfers in advance — international arrivals land at Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt and Enugu (Akanu Ibiam International Airport (ENU)).
- Security: Follow travel advisories; avoid high-risk regions and travel after dark in unfamiliar areas. Register plans with your embassy if visiting higher-risk states.
- Health: Bring anti-malarial medication and up-to-date routine vaccines; carry enough prescription medicine for your stay and copies of prescriptions.
- Documentation: Complete your Nigeria Landing Card and Health Declaration before travel and keep printed and electronic copies to present at immigration and to your airline.
- Local customs: Dress modestly in many areas and respect local cultural norms; agree fares with taxi drivers or use reputable ride services when possible.
