What Is the Myanmar Health Declaration?

The Myanmar Health Declaration is an official arrival health form issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports that travelers must submit when entering Myanmar through international airports, seaports or cross‑border points of entry. Introduced in August 2024 (public announcement dated 22 August 2024), the requirement reintroduced a standard Health Declaration Card that gathers recent travel, symptom and vaccination details to support public‑health screening at ports of entry.

You may complete the declaration on arrival with immigration/health staff, but most airlines and ports recommend completing it before travel. The Ministry of Health publishes the official Health Declaration Card (PDF) and guidance; authorised providers such as DoVisa help you prepare and check the information ahead of travel so you present a correct and legible submission at immigration. On approval you receive a confirmation (email or printout) that the health authorities and port officers can reference during screening.

The Myanmar Health Declaration is a public‑health registration — it is not a visa and does not replace any visa, eVisa or entry permit you need to enter the country. Visas must still be obtained separately (for example via the official eVisa portal at evisa.moip.gov.mm) and immigration decides final entry. Recent policy: the mandatory arrival Health Declaration requirement took effect 22 August 2024 and applies to arrivals at airports, seaports and border crossing POEs.

For more on entry rules see Myanmar visa information and the Ministry of Health form at moh.gov.mm Health Declaration Card. When you're ready, Apply for your Myanmar Health Declaration now.

Myanmar Entry Requirements & Restrictions

Passport Validity

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival. Ensure you have at least one blank page for entry stamps and that your passport data is legible. See GOV.UK — Entry requirements.

Vaccination & Health Rules

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. Routine vaccines (MMR, Hepatitis A) and COVID‑19 updates are recommended — check the CDC Burma (Myanmar) page for current advice: CDC Myanmar.

Customs & Prohibited Items

Myanmar restricts imports including counterfeit currency, narcotics, pornographic material and certain religiously‑sensitive items — some sources note restrictions on items bearing images of Buddha or pagodas. Declare valuables and report currency over the allowed limit. See official guidance on prohibited imports via trade and customs pages.

Travel Insurance & Medical Care

Medical facilities outside Yangon and Mandalay are limited — comprehensive travel insurance with medical evacuation is strongly recommended. The U.S. State Department and other travel advisories advise travellers to have evacuation plans and insurance before travel.

Currency Declaration

If you carry more than the equivalent of 10,000 US dollars in any currency you must declare it on arrival; Myanmar is largely cash‑based and travellers should carry sufficient funds and local currency as needed. See official entry guidance.

Travel Tips for Myanmar Visitors

Myanmar has diverse regions and transport links. Major international airports are Yangon International (RGN), Mandalay International (MDL) and Nay Pyi Taw International (NYT). Travel conditions vary and security advisories frequently change — plan conservatively.

  • Currency: Kyat (MMK). US dollars are widely used and accepted in many places, but bring small‑denomination, clean notes; cash is often required.
  • Language: Burmese (Myanmar) is the official language; English is commonly spoken in hotels, airports and tourist services.
  • Time zone: Myanmar Standard Time is GMT+6:30.
  • Health: Bring insect repellent for mosquito prevention and ensure routine vaccines are up to date; consider Hepatitis A and typhoid if visiting rural areas.
  • Transfers: Arrange airport transfers in advance where possible — internal flights and roads can be disrupted by security events.
  • Local laws: Be sensitive about photographing military sites, monuments and local government facilities; follow local guidance.
  • Prepare documents: Keep your Health Declaration confirmation (print or digital), visa/eVisa confirmation and passport copy easily accessible for immigration checks.
  • Safety: Check your government travel advisory before departure and register with your embassy if travelling to Myanmar.
