India Business eVisa

The India Business eVisa is India’s online visa for eligible foreign nationals traveling for business purposes such as meetings, conferences, negotiations, and short professional engagements. It is issued by the Government of India via the Indian Visa Online e-Visa portal and is designed to replace the need for many applicants to submit a paper application in person at an Indian mission. To apply, you complete the online form, upload a passport biodata page and a recent digital photograph, then pay online as outlined on indianvisaonline.gov.in. When approved, you receive an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) by email; print it and keep a copy on your phone, as it is presented to airline staff at departure and then to immigration on arrival, where the visa is stamped in your passport. Embassy guidance also notes your passport should have at least 6 months validity from arrival and two blank pages for stamping.

While the e-Visa is a visa category, the ETA email is not a separate entry permit by itself—entry is granted only after border checks at an authorized immigration checkpoint. The Government portal also states the e-Visa facility is not available to Diplomatic/Official passport holders or Laissez-passer travel document holders, and each traveler must have their own passport (no endorsements on a parent/spouse passport). For longer business stays, the portal notes that if the intention is to remain beyond 180 days, registration with FRRO/FRO is required within two weeks after the expiry of 180 days.
