Ethiopia Travelers Health Declaration
Complete your Ethiopia Travelers Health Declaration online via the official EPHI e-THP portal — submit before departure and receive a declaration ID for immigration checks.
What Is the Ethiopia Travelers Health Declaration?
The Ethiopia Travelers Health Declaration is a mandatory pre-travel health registration managed by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) through the e-THP (e-Travel Health Portal). The online system centralises health screening questions and vaccination checks for incoming travellers, and it was introduced to replace ad hoc paper questionnaires and manual public-health screening at ports of entry.
Apply through the official EPHI portal at e-thtp.ephi.gov.et or use DoVisa for guided completion. The registration collects personal and travel details, vaccination history (including yellow fever where applicable) and recent transit history. On successful submission you receive an onscreen confirmation and a Declaration ID (token) which you should save or print; some airlines and immigration officers will ask to see it during check-in or on arrival. The portal also provides an edit/find function for existing submissions.
This health registration is not a visa or entry permit — it is a public-health declaration that supports immigration checks and outbreak tracing. It does not replace visa requirements handled by the Ethiopian Immigration and Nationality Administration (eVisa) and does not guarantee entry. The declaration focuses on disease exposure, required vaccinations, and recent transit through yellow fever risk areas; it does not adjudicate immigration visas or lengths of stay.
For full travel rules see Ethiopia visa information and the EPHI portal at ephi.gov.et. When you're ready, Apply now to complete your registration before departure.

Ethiopia Entry Requirements & Restrictions
Passport Validity
Your passport should have at least 6 months validity from your date of arrival. Ensure one blank page for entry stamps and have your passport and visa (if required) ready for inspection. See U.S. Department of State — Ethiopia.
Yellow Fever Vaccination
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers aged 9 months or over arriving from countries with yellow fever risk or after transits over 12 hours. See guidance from the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and the CDC Ethiopia page.
Malaria & Other Health Risks
Malaria is present throughout large parts of Ethiopia below 2,000 metres—use chemoprophylaxis where recommended and mosquito protection. Check current alerts for malaria, cholera, mpox and measles on the CDC and EPHI sites.
Customs & Prohibited Items
Ethiopia restricts or prohibits importing certain goods: firearms and ammunition without authorisation, ivory and cultural artefacts, and specific commercial goods. Check prohibited lists before travel via official customs and trade guidance (e.g., U.S. Trade / Country Guide).
Travel Insurance & Healthcare
Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended—medical facilities outside Addis Ababa can be limited. The UK Foreign Office and Travel.State advise travellers to have insurance covering evacuation and specialist care.
Travel Tips for Ethiopia Visitors
Ethiopia spans high plateaus and lowland regions; elevation and regional instability can affect travel plans. Most international travellers arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD), the country’s main gateway.
- Currency: Ethiopian Birr (ETB). Many hotels, tour operators and some businesses accept USD for tourism services—carry local ETB for market purchases.
- Language: Amharic is the official language; English is widely used in hotels, airports and by tour operators.
- Time zone: East Africa Time (GMT+3).
- Altitude: Addis Ababa sits around 2,400m—allow time to acclimatise and watch for altitude sickness.
- Safety: Check travel advisories—regions such as Tigray, Amhara and parts of Oromia have active security warnings and travel restrictions.
- Transport: Domestic flight schedules can change—confirm connections in advance and allow extra time for transfers.
- Customs caution: Do not export cultural artefacts or ivory; declare significant sums of cash and follow local customs rules.
- Health: Drink bottled or boiled water, follow mosquito-bite prevention, and have your yellow fever certificate if required.
