What Is the Croatia Announcement Form?

The Croatia Announcement Form is the official electronic notification used to register a foreign national’s short-term arrival and accommodation with Croatian authorities. It provides police and border services with basic visitor details and is commonly used by accommodation providers and travellers to meet Croatia’s registration rules for short stays. The system supports secure submission of arrival address and host details and complements Schengen entry checks introduced when Croatia joined the Schengen area.

You can complete the Announcement Form via the Croatian consular and interior ministry portals or with DoVisa for guided completion. After submission you receive an automatic confirmation — either an email receipt or a printable acknowledgement — which your accommodation provider uses to register your stay with the police within the required timeframe. The form asks for passport data, accommodation address, and dates of stay; some applicants print the acknowledgement to show at check-in or upon request.

The Announcement Form is a registration step — not a visa or entry permit. Entry to Croatia follows Schengen rules (short stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period). The Announcement Form satisfies the domestic police registration obligation and helps accommodation hosts complete the required reporting; it does not replace visa requirements where a visa is needed. Recent policy changes include the full application of the Schengen acquis in Croatia from 1 January 2023, which affects how short-stay time is calculated and border checks are processed.

For complete entry rules see Croatia visa information and the Ministry portal at mvep.gov.hr. When you're ready, Apply for your Croatia Announcement Form now.

Croatia Entry Requirements & Restrictions

Passport Validity

Your passport should have a date of issue less than 10 years before arrival and an expiry date at least 3 months after you plan to leave the Schengen area, per Croatian Schengen guidance. See the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for details.

Vaccination & Health Advice

No specific vaccinations are required for entry to Croatia. Check current medical guidance before travel and consider routine travel vaccines; see official health guidance linked below.

Customs & Allowances

EU customs rules apply. For air and sea travellers the exemption for non‑commercial goods is EUR 430. Limits for excise goods include specific allowances for cigarettes, alcohol, and tobacco products; see Croatia Customs for exact quantities and e‑liquid rules.

Drones, Medication & Sensitive Items

Import of drones, large quantities of medications, weapons, narcotics, and certain agricultural products is restricted. Declare prescription medicines at customs and check the Customs Administration guidance for permitted items.

Travel Insurance & Accommodation Registration

While travel insurance is not mandatory, authorities and accommodation providers commonly request proof of accommodation and travel insurance. Hosts must register your stay with the police within 48 hours if they cannot do so online — see the Ministry of Interior guidance.

Travel Tips for Croatia Visitors

Croatia is an EU and Schengen member on the Adriatic coast with a varied coastline, historic towns, and island airports. The main international gateways include Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik and Pula.

  • Currency: Euro (EUR). Many tourist businesses accept USD in popular resorts, but pay in EUR for best rates.
  • Language: Croatian is the official language. English is widely spoken in tourist areas and at airports.
  • Time zone: Central European Time (GMT+1) — Central European Summer Time (GMT+2) in summer.
  • Airport transfers: Ferry, coach and domestic flights connect islands to the mainland; confirm ferry or transfer times in advance.
  • Police registration: Hotels normally register guests. If staying privately, keep your Announcement Form acknowledgement to show at a police station if requested.
  • Customs: Follow EU customs allowances — declare large quantities and restricted items to avoid fines or confiscation.
  • Local laws: Respect protected sites and national parks; drones and commercial photo equipment may need permits.
  • Plan for seasonality: July–August are peak months; book transfers and accommodation early.
