What Is the Botswana Business eVisa?

The Botswana Business eVisa is an electronic visa issued by Botswana authorities for foreign nationals travelling to Botswana for business activities such as meetings, conferences, trade visits, or short-term consultancy. Introduced as part of the government's digital visa platform, the eVisa system replaced many paper and embassy-only routes and allows applicants to submit supporting documents, an invitation letter and other materials online via the official eVisa portal.

Applications are made on the official portal at evisa.gov.bw and can also be completed with DoVisa's guided service for document checks and submission assistance. Once approved you receive an electronic visa confirmation by email — typically a downloadable PDF confirmation — with guidance on whether you must present the endorsed visa in your passport. Keep the confirmation ready for airline check-in and for immigration on arrival.

The eVisa simplifies the pre-travel process but does not guarantee admission — immigration officers at the port of entry determine final clearance. The system is intended to speed up processing for bona fide business travellers and reduces the need for in-person embassy applications where an eVisa route is available.

For full Botswana entry rules see Botswana visa information and the official eVisa portal at evisa.gov.bw. When you're ready, Apply for your Botswana Business eVisa now.

Botswana Entry Requirements & Restrictions

Passport Validity

Your passport must have at least 6 months validity from the date of arrival and at least three blank pages for entry/exit stamps. See official guidance at Botswana Embassy.

Yellow Fever & Health

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required only if you are arriving from a yellow fever endemic country. Routine vaccines are recommended; consult the CDC Botswana page for health advice: CDC – Botswana.

Customs & Prohibited Items

Botswana prohibits the importation of habit-forming drugs and obscene/pornographic materials; firearms and ammunition require a police permit. Check updated lists and seasonal agricultural import restrictions on the U.S. ITA trade guide: Botswana — Prohibited & Restricted Imports.

Business Documentation & Invitation

For a business eVisa you typically need an invitation letter from a Botswana host, a business profile or company registration documents, travel itinerary, and a recent bank statement as proof of funds. See the official checklist at evisa.gov.bw and embassy guidance at Botswana Embassy.

Travel Insurance & Medical Care

Travel insurance is strongly recommended — medical facilities outside major cities are limited and evacuation to Gaborone may be required for serious conditions. Check travel advisories and health notices on government travel pages.

Travel Tips for Botswana Visitors

Botswana is a landlocked southern African country famed for its wildlife and protected wetlands. Main international gateways are Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone and regional hubs to safari areas. Read these practical tips before you travel.

  • Currency: Botswana Pula (BWP). Many safari lodges and tour operators accept major cards and often accept USD for payment — carry some local currency for small purchases.
  • Language: English is an official language and widely used; Setswana (Tswana) is also commonly spoken.
  • Time zone: Botswana operates on GMT+2 year-round.
  • Best time to visit: May–October (dry season) for easier wildlife viewing; November–March is wetter and mosquito activity rises in northern districts.
  • Malaria risk: Malaria occurs seasonally in northern regions — consult the CDC travel health page for prevention advice.
  • Driving & safety: Drive with caution at night — animals on roads are a hazard; stick to major routes and confirm vehicle hire insurance.
  • Power & connectivity: Major lodges and hotels accept cards and have power; remote camps may be cash-preferred and have limited connectivity — confirm details with your operator.
  • Respect park rules: Follow guides' instructions on safari and do not feed or approach wildlife.
