  Travelers require a passport valid for at least 3 months after the traveler exits Germany

  Travelers need a valid passport to enter Germany. The traveler's passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the traveler's arrival date and remain valid for at least 3 months after the traveler's departure from Germany. Travelers with passports including a signature section must ensure the signature section is signed. This requirement does not apply to travelers with passports that do not include a signature section.

  Entry/Exit System (EES) new digital passport control at European borders

  The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital border process for non-EU nationals traveling for a short stay (up to 90 days within 180 days). No advance action is required. Travelers should allow additional time at passport control, especially during busy travel seasons. At passport control, travelers provide a facial photo and/or fingerprints. Passports are no longer stamped. Self-service kiosks may be available at some airports and border entries.

  Travelers need a visa to transit through Germany. Travelers must obtain a paper or embassy visa from an embassy, consulate or visa center before traveling.

  • The airport transit visa requirement doesn’t apply to the following travelers: -Travelers who transit through Germany on their way to and from Australia and New Zealand; -Holders of valid visas and national residence permits from European Union and Schengen Member States; -Holders of residence permits issued by Andorra, Japan, Canada, San Marino, United States; -Holders of valid visas issued by European Economic Area countries (European Union member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland); -Holders of valid visas issued by Japan, Canada, and United States; -Holders of United Kingdom permanent residence permits with valid UK Biometric Residence Permits no longer require a transit visa to travel through a German airport.
