What Is the Thailand Pass?

The Thailand Pass was an official digital travel authorization required by the Royal Thai Government during the COVID-19 pandemic, introduced in November 2021 to streamline health and entry checks. It was managed through the official portal at tp.consular.go.th and combined a pre-arrival registration with health declarations, vaccination status, and insurance requirements. The system was discontinued in July 2022 when Thailand removed all COVID-related entry restrictions.

Today, the mandatory pre-arrival document is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), introduced on May 1, 2025. All foreign nationals must submit the TDAC within 72 hours (3 days) before arriving in Thailand via the official portal at tdac.immigration.go.th or through DoVisa. We check your passport details, flag missing info, and handle follow-ups. Upon approval, you receive an electronic confirmation with a QR code via email.

The pass itself is obsolete and not required for travel. The TDAC is a pre-arrival registration, not a visa. It collects passport data, flight details, and accommodation information to facilitate immigration processing. Most tourists from eligible countries receive a visa exemption for 60 days on arrival. A key change is that the TDAC is free via the official portal, while the old pass had associated fees. The form must be submitted electronically before travel; paper forms are no longer accepted at the border.

Review Thailand visa information for broader entry rules and confirm the latest submission window on the TDAC portal. When you're ready, apply for your TDAC now.

Travel Tips for Thailand Visitors

Thailand is a Southeast Asian kingdom known for tropical beaches, ornate temples, and vibrant street life. Most international visitors arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Don Mueang Airport (DMK) in Bangkok. Other major international airports include Phuket (HKT), Chiang Mai (CNX), Chiang Rai (CEI), Krabi (KBV), Hat Yai (HDY), and Samui (USM).

  • Best time to visit: November to February (cool and dry season) offers the most pleasant weather. March to May is hot, June to October is rainy monsoon season with lower prices.
  • Time zone: Indochina Time is GMT+7, with no daylight saving.
  • Language: The official language is Thai. English is widely spoken in tourist areas, hotels, and airports.
  • Currency: Thai Baht (THB) is the local currency; US dollars are accepted at many hotels and exchange bureaus. ATMs are plentiful.
  • Dress modestly at temples: Cover shoulders and knees when visiting Buddhist temples. Remove shoes before entering temple buildings and private homes.
  • Respect the monarchy: Criticizing the Thai royal family is a serious criminal offense.
  • Transport tips: Use the Grab app for taxis (similar to Uber). Tuk-tuks are fun but agree on a price before riding.
  • Save your TDAC confirmation offline: Screenshot the QR code email — airport Wi-Fi can be unreliable.
  • Tipping: Not mandatory but appreciated; 10% is common in restaurants if service charge isn't included.
