Slovakia Schengen Visa

What Is the Slovakia Schengen Visa?
The Slovakia Schengen Visa is the standard short-stay Schengen visa issued for tourism, business, family visits, short study and transit that allows third‑country nationals to enter Slovakia and other Schengen states for up to 90 days in any 180‑day period. The visa is issued by Slovak embassies, consulates and visa application centres following EU Schengen rules administered at national level by the Slovak Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
Applications are submitted in person to a Slovak consulate or at an external visa application centre (VFS or local providers) — there is no single-country eVisa portal for Schengen short-stay visas. DoVisa provides guided document preparation, checklist review and submission support so you arrive at your appointment with a complete file. On approval you receive a visa sticker in your passport; consulates may also provide a written notification of decision.
The Slovakia Schengen Visa is an entry visa — not a residence permit — and it must be used in accordance with Schengen rules. Recent EU changes include the rollout of the Entry/Exit System (EES); travellers should expect biometric registration booths at external borders as EES is phased in (full operation expected from 10 April 2026). The visa does not replace longer-term national permits or work/residence visas, which must be obtained separately.
For full Slovakia entry rules see Slovakia visa information and official guidance on the Slovak Ministry website at https://www.mzv.sk. Apply for your Slovakia Schengen Visa now and we’ll guide you through the consulate checklist and appointment process.

Slovakia Entry Requirements & Restrictions
Passport Validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen area and its date of issue should normally be within 10 years of arrival. Authorities may refuse entry if passport rules are not met. See GOV.UK — Entry requirements.
Travel Insurance
A Schengen short‑stay visa usually requires a travel medical insurance policy covering €30,000 for emergencies, accidents and repatriation valid for the entire Schengen area. Carry your insurance certificate to the appointment.
Vaccination & Health Advice
No vaccinations are mandatory to enter Slovakia. The CDC recommends being up to date on routine vaccines and considering Hepatitis A/B depending on activities; review current guidance at CDC — Slovakia.
Customs & Prohibited Items
You may not bring meat, milk or related products into EU countries for personal import; weapons, ammunition and spent casings require prior permission. Declare goods subject to duty and declare cash of €10,000 or more. For details see Slovakia Customs and U.S. guidance at Travel.State.Gov.
Medication & Special Items
Carry prescription medicines in original packaging with the prescription or doctor’s letter. Check rules for nicotine pouches and other restricted products, as national import rules can change.
Travel Tips for Slovakia Visitors
Slovakia is in Central Europe with dramatic mountains, medieval towns and a compact rail network. Major international arrival points include Bratislava M. R. Štefánik Airport (BTS), Košice International Airport (KSC) and Poprad–Tatry Airport (TAT); smaller airports and rail border crossings also serve international travellers.
- Currency: Euro (EUR). Card payments are widely used; USD is not widely accepted — take euros or a card that works in Europe.
- Language: Slovak is the official language; English is commonly spoken in hotels, tourist areas and younger service staff.
- Time zone: Central European Time — CET (GMT+1), summer CEST (GMT+2).
- EES rollout: Expect biometric checks as the EU Entry/Exit System is phased in (full operation expected 10 April 2026) — allow extra time at external border controls.
- Local transport: Bratislava is compact; trains connect major cities — book long‑distance services in advance for peak seasons.
- Police registration: If staying in private accommodation, you must register your place of stay with local Foreigners Police within three working days (hotels usually register guests).
- Dress & culture: Slovakia is conservative outside tourist resorts — city smart casual is appropriate for most restaurants and churches.
- Cash & cards: ATMs widely available, but declare cash over €10,000 on entry/exit.
