What Is the Sint Maarten ED Card?

The Sint Maarten ED Card is the official digital Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) entry form that travelers to the Dutch side of Saint Martin must complete prior to arrival. Launched in 2024 and available at the government portal, the ED Card replaced paper embarkation cards and centralizes passport, contact, flight and accommodation details for immigration and public health screening. The system is managed via the official Entry SX portal operated in collaboration with PJIAE and Sint Maarten ministries.

Apply on the official site at entry.sx or use DoVisa for guided completion, document checks and faster processing options. On approval you'll receive an electronic confirmation by email with a PDF/QR code to present to immigration officers and, if required, at airline check-in. The portal supports edits and retrieval of prior submissions when travel plans change.

The ED Card is a pre-arrival registration — it is not a visa. Admission remains at the discretion of border officials who will verify passports, onward travel and accommodation. A key policy change: the island moved to a fully digital ED process in October 2024 to improve border efficiency and compliance with the National Ordinance; proof of a completed ED entry form may be requested at immigration.

Key facts: 30-day validity, single entry, and recommended submission before check-in. Review Sint Maarten visa information for wider entry rules and the official portal at entry.sx. When you're ready, Apply now.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival and have at least one blank page for entry stamps. See the UK and U.S. travel advisories for official details.

Vaccination & Health Advice

A yellow fever certificate is required only if you arrive from a country with yellow fever risk. Routine vaccine recommendations (MMR, Hep A) apply — check the CDC Sint Maarten page for guidance.

Customs & Prohibited Items

Declare goods that are restricted. Prohibited or controlled items include narcotics and certain agricultural products; import/export currency limits apply (see official customs guidance). Consult Customs Sint Maarten and trade guidance for full lists.

Proof of Onward Travel & Accommodation

Immigration officers may request a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation or an address for your stay, and evidence of sufficient funds for the visit. Have bookings accessible when asked.

Travel Insurance & Medical Facilities

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Medical services on the island vary — serious cases may require evacuation to larger medical centers. Check local health advice on the CDC page.

Travel Tips for Sint Maarten Visitors

Sint Maarten is a compact Caribbean island with lively beaches, duty-free shopping and the famous Maho Beach aircraft landings. Most international flights arrive at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) near Philipsburg. Plan transfers and local transport ahead during high season (December–April).

  • Currency: Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG) — USD widely accepted in tourist areas and shops.
  • Language: Dutch is the official language; however, English is widely spoken across the island.
  • Time zone: Atlantic Standard Time — GMT−4, no daylight saving time.
  • Best time to visit: December–April for drier weather and calmer seas; hurricane season runs June–November.
  • Airport transfers: Book ahead — many resorts and hotels provide shuttle or taxi services from SXM.
  • Safety: Take usual precautions against petty theft; avoid isolated beaches at night and secure valuables.
  • Border note: There is no physical border between the Dutch and French sides — carry ID and your entry confirmation when crossing.
  • Keep ED confirmation handy: Save your QR code and email offline — mobile service can be spotty when landing.
