What Is the Nicaragua Immigration Form?

The Nicaragua Immigration Form is the official pre-arrival immigration document used by Nicaraguan authorities to collect traveller information for border control and public-safety screening. Historically, Nicaragua relied on paper tourist cards at airport arrival counters; the Immigration Form streamlines information collection and helps immigration officers process visitors at ports of entry. The form is required for most foreign nationals who will clear immigration on arrival and is administered by Nicaragua’s migration authorities.

Applications are completed via Nicaragua’s migration website and official visa/immigration pages — for guidance and a checked submission you can also apply through DoVisa. On approval you receive a digital confirmation delivered by email; most travellers receive a PDF/e‑ticket style confirmation and a QR code to present to airline staff at departure and to immigration on arrival. If the official portal requests additional supporting documents you will be notified during the online process.

The Immigration Form is a border-control registration — it is not itself a visa or a guarantee of admission. Entry remains at the discretion of Nicaragua immigration officers and, since 16 February 2026, Nicaragua updated its visa policy and removed many visa-on-arrival privileges for a large group of nationalities (see official sources). The form helps speed processing but does not replace any required visa or residency permit you may need.

For full entry rules visit Nicaragua visa information and the official migration pages at https://www.mint.gob.ni/migracion/tramites/visa. When you’re ready, Apply now to complete your Nicaragua Immigration Form with guided checks and email confirmation.

Nicaragua Entry Requirements & Restrictions

Passport Validity

Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival. Bring a printed copy of your entry stamp/arrival documents if you have recently travelled in the region. See official guidance at the Nicaraguan Migration page.

Vaccination & Health Advice

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required only if you are arriving from or have transited through a country with yellow fever risk. Keep routine vaccinations up to date; the CDC recommends measles (MMR) protection and other routine vaccines for travellers to Nicaragua. See CDC — Nicaragua.

Customs & Prohibited Items

Nicaragua enforces import restrictions — most notably a ban on electronic cigarettes and vaping devices (Resolution No. 334-2021) and restrictions on drones. Narcotics, weapons, and undeclared commercial goods are prohibited or require permits. Review detailed lists at the U.S. Trade/Commerce guide.

Border Security & Device Searches

Immigration authorities may search electronic devices and inspect personal social media or electronic content. Photography of certain official sites may be restricted; carry photocopies of travel documents and keep originals secure. See safety advisories from the U.S. Embassy in Nicaragua.

Travel Insurance & Funds

Proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds for your stay may be requested at arrival. Travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage is strongly recommended — medical services outside Managua can be limited.

Travel Tips for Nicaragua Visitors

Nicaragua is a Central American country with Pacific and Caribbean coastlines, volcanoes, colonial cities and rainforest. Most international flights arrive at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua (MGA); other international airports include Bluefields (BEF), Corn Island (RNI), Emerald Coast (ECI) and San Carlos (NCR). Transfers and domestic connections can be irregular, so plan transfers in advance.

  • Currency: Nicaraguan Córdoba (NIO). US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas and hotels — carry small Córdoba bills for local purchases.
  • Language: Spanish is the official language. English is commonly spoken in major tourist hubs and on the Corn Islands.
  • Time zone: Central Standard Time — GMT-6 (no daylight saving).
  • Safety: Exercise increased caution due to political unrest and crime; avoid demonstrations and keep a low profile in cities.
  • Transport: Use authorised taxis with red plates, book domestic flights early, and confirm schedules with carriers.
  • Health: Prevent mosquito bites — dengue and chikungunya circulate; bring insect repellent and basic first-aid supplies.
  • Cash & cards: ATMs are concentrated in main cities; carry cash for rural areas and small purchases.
  • Documentation: Keep your Immigration Form confirmation and passport accessible for airline check-in and immigration checks on arrival.
