What Is the Mozambique Entry Visa?
The Mozambique Entry Visa is the country’s digital visa (eVisa/eTA) issued by the National Immigration Service to travellers who require a visa to enter Mozambique. The modern platform centralises tourist, business, transit and special-purpose visas and replaced the previous system when the new portal launched on 11 February 2026. The system is run in partnership with Serviço Nacional de Migração and the official eVisa portal at evisa.gov.mz.
Applicants complete an online application, upload supporting documents and pay securely on the official portal. Approved applications generate an electronic visa document that you can download as a PDF and will receive by the email you register. The portal also provides a printable approval notice for boarding and immigration checks; some travellers will still be asked for supporting documents at arrival.
The Mozambique Entry Visa is a visa — not a travel guarantee — and admission remains at the discretion of immigration officers at the border. Recent changes: the government introduced the new unified eVisa & eTA platform on 11 February 2026 and discontinued the legacy portal; dual nationals must apply with the passport they intend to travel with. Work, study and residence remain separate permit processes and are not covered by the eVisa.
For full country entry rules see Mozambique visa information and review the official portal at evisa.gov.mz. When you’re ready to begin, Apply now for guided completion and document checks with DoVisa.

Mozambique Entry Requirements & Restrictions
Passport Validity & Pages
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry and have at least two blank pages for stamps. Some consulates specify passports issued within the last 10 years — check the embassy guidance at Embassy of Mozambique (USA).
Vaccinations & Health Advice
Yellow fever vaccination may be required if you arrive from or transited through a country with risk of yellow fever — present your Vaccination Certificate when asked. The CDC recommends Hepatitis A and routine immunisations; malaria prophylaxis is advised in northern and inland areas. See CDC Mozambique.
Customs & Prohibited Items
Mozambique prohibits or strictly regulates certain imports — travellers should not bring pornographic material, controlled narcotics, and should declare large amounts of currency. Pharmaceuticals and controlled medicines are regulated; bring prescriptions and doctor’s letters. For official lists and commercial restrictions see Trade.gov – Mozambique.
Itinerary, Accommodation & Funds
You should be ready to show a confirmed return/onward ticket, proof of paid accommodation and sufficient funds for your stay. Requirements vary by nationality — the eVisa checklist will list the documents you must upload when applying at the official portal.
Travel Insurance & Health Facilities
Medical facilities outside Maputo are limited. Travel insurance with evacuation cover is strongly recommended. In flood or emergency zones follow local authority advice and embassy notices; check up-to-date travel advisories at U.S. Department of State or your government travel site.
Travel Tips for Mozambique Visitors
Mozambique stretches along the southeast African coast with a long Indian Ocean shoreline. The main international gateways are Maputo International Airport (MPM), Beira Airport (BEW), Inhambane (INH), Pemba (POL) and Nampula (APL). Land borders with South Africa can have long queues — plan for delays.
- Best time to visit: May–October (drier season) for wildlife and beach travel; cyclone season is November–April in parts of the coast.
- Currency: Mozambican metical (MZN). Carry cards and some local currency; tourist businesses often accept major cards but USD is widely helpful in tourist areas.
- Language: Portuguese is the official language; English is common in hotels, tourist centres and larger cities.
- Time zone: GMT+2 (Central Africa Time).
- Security: Avoid northern Cabo Delgado and parts of Nampula/Niassa due to insurgency — check government advisories before travel.
- Transport: Domestic flights connect main airports; transfers to coastal lodges often require road or light aircraft segments — confirm schedules with providers.
- Customs: Declare medicines and controlled items; do not import prohibited materials such as pornographic content or controlled narcotics.
