What Is the Iceland Pre-Registration Form?

The Iceland Pre-Registration Form is a pre-arrival registration process used by operators and authorities to collect traveller itinerary, contact and safety information for specific arrival types — commonly required by cruise lines, remote-area tour operators, and for certain safety or public-health screening. It is not a visa; instead it provides authorities and service providers with contact and itinerary details before arrival.

Applications are submitted via official government and operator portals such as island.is, tour operator check-in pages, or partner pages linked from SafeTravel Iceland (safetravel.is). After successful submission you receive an email confirmation or PDF receipt that contains a reference number and any operator-specific instructions — keep this confirmation with your travel documents. DoVisa provides guided completion, document checks, and email delivery of your confirmation for operator or immigration review.

The form speeds pre-screening and can be required when boarding cruise ships, joining organized expeditions, or entering sensitive remote locations. It does not replace a Schengen visa, ETIAS (coming late 2026 for visa‑exempt travellers), or routine passport checks: border officers at arrival still decide final admission based on your passport, travel purpose, and other entry requirements. Iceland is introducing the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) in 2026 which adds biometric registration at some borders — the pre-registration complements those checks and operator procedures.

For the latest national entry rules see Iceland visa information and the official Iceland portals at island.is. When you're ready to submit your details with expert help, Apply for your Iceland Pre-Registration Form now.

Iceland Entry Requirements & Restrictions

Passport Validity

For short stays, follow Schengen rules: your passport should have an expiry date at least 3 months after your planned date of departure from the Schengen area and a date of issue less than 10 years old. See the official guidance at GOV.UK — Iceland entry requirements.

Vaccination & Health

There are currently no mandatory vaccinations for entry to Iceland, though routine immunisations and CDC-recommended vaccines (MMR, Hepatitis A) are advised. Review up-to-date travel health advice on the CDC Iceland page.

Customs & Prohibited Items

Declare amounts of cash over 10,000 EUR. Iceland restricts importing uncooked meat, dairy products and certain foodstuffs; there are limits on duty‑free food and alcohol. See customs details at the Directorate of Customs and summaries at Iceland Customs and the US Trade Guide Prohibited & Restricted Imports.

Prescription Medicines

Carry prescription medicines in original packaging with your prescription or doctor’s letter. Some controlled substances are restricted — check Icelandic medical import rules at the Icelandic Medicines Agency (IMA).

Travel & Rescue Insurance

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. For remote-area activities purchase coverage that includes medical evacuation and helicopter rescue, and register your itinerary with SafeTravel Iceland at safetravel.is.

Travel Tips for Iceland Visitors

Iceland is an island nation with dramatic seasonal weather and extensive visitor services concentrated around Reykjavík and Keflavík. Most international flights arrive at Keflavík International Airport (KEF); domestic connections commonly use Reykjavík Airport (RKV) and Akureyri Airport (AEY).

  • Currency: Icelandic króna (ISK). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted; carry small ISK for rural services—USD is sometimes accepted in tourist businesses but should not be relied upon.
  • Language: Icelandic is the official language; English is widely spoken in tourism, transport and public services.
  • Time zone: Greenwich Mean Time — GMT (UTC+0); Iceland does not observe daylight saving.
  • Best time to visit: Summer (June–August) for accessible highland roads and long daylight; winter (November–March) for Northern Lights but expect cold, short days.
  • Transport: Keflavík (KEF) → Reykjavík transfers by shuttle or taxi; domestic flights connect remote towns—book early for summer.
  • Safety: Check local weather and road conditions before driving; register remote itineraries on SafeTravel Iceland and consider evacuation cover.
  • Customs & food: Do not attempt to import fresh meat or dairy; penalties apply. Declare large cash amounts (over 10,000 EUR).
  • Respect nature: Stay on marked tracks, follow local guidance near volcanic or coastal sites, and avoid unstable black‑sand beaches with sneaker waves.
