What Is the Grenada Visa prior to arrival?

The Grenada Visa prior to arrival is the official pre-travel visa applicants must secure from a Grenadian consulate or approved channel when their nationality requires clearance before boarding. This pre-arrival visa process has long been used by Grenada’s immigration services to screen applications that are not eligible for visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival. Applications are processed through Grenadian diplomatic missions and in many cases submitted to the Immigration Department for approval ahead of travel.

Applications are typically completed using the embassy/consulate guidance pages or by submitting a printed and signed application package to the nearest Grenadian mission. Some jurisdictions allow scanned documents by email and instruct applicants to include passport biodata, photos, travel itinerary and invitation or sponsorship letters. On approval you will either receive an electronic confirmation by email or a visa vignette/sticker issued by the mission — keep the approval and travel documents with you when you travel.

This product helps travellers gather the correct documents, follow the embassy instructions, and submit a complete application package so the embassy can forward it for clearance where required. It is a visa — not a travel declaration or ED arrival card — and must be obtained before boarding for nationals who do not enjoy visa-free access. The online Immigration & Customs Arrival Card (ED Card) is a separate requirement available at edcard.gov.gd and should be completed within 72 hours of arrival in addition to your visa where applicable.

Vaccination Requirements

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from or transiting through a country with yellow fever risk. Check the CDC guidance for Grenada for current vaccine recommendations: CDC — Grenada.

Customs & Prohibited Items

Grenada restricts or prohibits importing certain agricultural items, fresh produce, meat and unlicensed animal products; illegal narcotics and firearms are strictly prohibited. Declare dutiable goods and check Grenada Customs for details: Grenada Customs.

All travellers should complete the online Immigration and Customs (ED) Form within 72 hours before arrival at edcard.gov.gd and save the receipt for presentation to authorities on arrival.

Health & Insurance

Travel insurance is strongly recommended — medical facilities are limited outside St. George’s. Review CDC health advice and consider evacuation cover for remote-island care.

Travel Tips for Grenada Visitors

Grenada is a three-island state in the southeastern Caribbean known as the Spice Island. Most international flights arrive at Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) near St. George’s; smaller domestic services use Lauriston/Carriacou (CRU). Ferries connect Carriacou and Petite Martinique with Grenada.

  • Best time to visit: December–April for the driest weather and calmer seas.
  • Currency: Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD). US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas, but XCD is the legal tender.
  • Language: English is the official language and is spoken nationwide; local dialects are common.
  • Time zone: GMT‑4 (UTC‑4) year-round.
  • Transfers: Allow extra time for domestic connections — ferries and small aircraft have limited schedules.
  • Health: Routine vaccines and hepatitis A are recommended; check CDC guidance before travel.
  • Customs: Avoid bringing fresh food or unpermitted agricultural items — declare any animals or plant products.
  • Respect local culture: Dress is beach-casual at resorts but modest on local island settlements and in churches.
