What Is the Costa Rica Health Pass + Insurance?
The Costa Rica Health Pass + Insurance is a combined service offering a traveler health pass (Pase de Salud) and optional travel medical insurance for international visitors to Costa Rica. Historically, Costa Rica required an electronic health pass and pandemic-era travel insurance for inbound visitors; that system helped airlines and health authorities manage arrivals and contact tracing. The health pass used to be submitted through official health portals and generated a QR confirmation to present at check-in and arrival.
You can complete the health pass via Costa Rica's health portal or use DoVisa to fill the health pass data, upload supporting documents, and buy a travel medical policy where required by private providers. Upon completion you receive an electronic confirmation by email (PDF/QR code) and an insurance policy number and certificate by email. We check entries for passport names, flight data, and policy numbers to reduce mistakes before you travel.
Important policy context: national rules changed in 2022 — Costa Rica removed the mandatory Health Pass and insurance requirement on April 1, 2022, but some airlines, charter operators, tour companies and private providers still request proof of coverage or a completed pass for their services. The Costa Rica Health Pass + Insurance product is therefore offered as a convenience and optional compliance service to satisfy carriers and partners that still request documentation.
For complete entry guidance see Costa Rica visa information and the official public health portal at Visit Costa Rica — Entry Requirements. When you're ready, Apply now to complete the pass and add travel medical coverage.

Travel Tips for Costa Rica Visitors
Costa Rica is a biodiversity hotspot in Central America with Pacific and Caribbean coastlines. The main international gateways are Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) near San José and Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia; Limón also handles international arrivals at Limón International Airport (LIO). Domestic points and smaller international entries include Puerto Jiménez (PJM) and Golfito (GLF).
- Currency: Costa Rican Colón (CRC). US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas — carry some local colón for markets and local taxis.
- Language: Spanish is the official language; English is commonly spoken in hotels, tour operators and many tourist towns.
- Time zone: Costa Rica is GMT-6 year-round (no daylight saving).
- Best time to visit: December–April is the dry season on the Pacific side; rainy season (May–November) brings lush landscapes and fewer crowds.
- Airport transfers: Many resorts require pre-booked transfers — confirm arrival times for domestic flights or boat transfers.
- Health preparations: Pack insect repellent, a basic first-aid kit, and any prescription medications in original packaging.
- Customs: Do not pack fresh produce or seeds in checked luggage — these are commonly confiscated at arrival.
- Provider rules: Even though the national Health Pass is not mandatory, airlines and tour operators may still ask for proof of insurance or a completed pass — check before you travel.
