Cook Islands Health Declaration
Complete your Cook Islands Health Declaration online before travel — submit via the official portal or DoVisa and receive confirmation to present at arrival.
What Is the Cook Islands Health Declaration?
The Cook Islands Health Declaration is a pre-arrival health registration required (or strongly recommended, depending on arrival circumstances) for travellers entering the Cook Islands. Managed by the Cook Islands Ministry of Health in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Immigration, the declaration collects basic health, recent-travel and contact information to help public-health screening and to speed up arrival checks at border control. Digital and paper versions exist — the Ministry’s guidance and the downloadable arrival health form are available from the government health site.
You can complete the declaration through national portals or use DoVisa for guided completion and document checks. After submission you receive an electronic confirmation by email — retain this on your phone and print a copy where possible for presentation to immigration or health officers on arrival at Rarotonga International Airport (RAR) or other ports of entry. The declaration is trip-specific and intended to complement, not replace, immigration checks or visa requirements.
The Cook Islands Health Declaration does not act as a visa or entry permit. Entry permission — such as the standard visa-free visit of up to 31 days — is determined separately by immigration. Recent policy updates (see official entry guidance) have removed routine mandatory vaccination checks at border as of early 2026, but health-screening measures remain in place for infectious-disease events; travellers should follow Ministry of Health advisories before travel.
For full entry rules see Cook Islands visa information and confirm health rules on the Ministry of Health and Immigration portals (mfai.gov.ck/immigration, health.gov.ck). When you're ready, Apply for your Cook Islands Health Declaration now.

Cook Islands Entry Requirements & Restrictions
Passport Validity
Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned date of departure from the Cook Islands and have sufficient blank pages for stamps. See government immigration guidance at mfai.gov.ck/immigration.
Vaccination & Health Advice
There are currently no routine mandatory vaccination checks on arrival (official guidance updated January 2026). Nonetheless, routine vaccinations (MMR, tetanus, hepatitis A/B) are recommended and travellers should consult the Ministry of Health travel advisories and CDC guidance before departure.
Customs, Prohibited & Restricted Items
The Cook Islands restricts or prohibits certain imports including firearms, explosives, and imitation tobacco products (including some e-cigarettes/vapes). All goods may be subject to inspection; declare currency and restricted items. See customs rules at government and partner pages (MFEM Customs, NZ Customs guidance).
Travel Insurance & Medical Evacuation
Medical facilities on outer islands are limited — comprehensive travel insurance with medical and evacuation cover is strongly recommended. Visitors should ensure policies cover water activities and air evacuation to New Zealand or Australia if needed.
Cash & Currency Declaration
You must declare large amounts of cash when asked — some travel advisories suggest declaring values equivalent to the legal threshold or more. Follow border officer instructions on arrival and consult official travel advice for currency declaration rules.
Travel Tips for Cook Islands Visitors
The Cook Islands are a group of 15 inhabited islands in free association with New Zealand — Rarotonga is the main international gateway. Plan transfers carefully and respect local customs when visiting inhabited islands.
- Currency: New Zealand dollar (NZD) is widely used — many businesses accept NZD and card payments on Rarotonga and Aitutaki.
- Language: Cook Islands Māori is an official language; English is widely spoken in tourism and government services.
- Time zone: Cook Islands Standard Time is GMT-10.
- Best time to visit: May–October for drier weather; cyclone season runs November–April.
- Local customs: Dress modestly on inhabited islands, ask before photographing people or cultural sites, and accept island hospitality respectfully.
- Transport: Rarotonga (RAR) is the main hub — inter-island flights and boats connect outer islands; check schedules in advance.
- Health & safety: Protect against mosquito-borne illnesses—use repellent and netting; purchase travel insurance covering marine activities and evacuation.
- Cash & services: ATMs and liberal card acceptance are common on Rarotonga but limited on smaller islands — carry some NZD in cash for transfers and local purchases.
