What Costa Rica may ask for

Not every traveller is asked for all of these. A valid passport is checked every time; the rest is a spot check at the border, and some items belong to a visa application rather than the crossing itself.

    Travelers require a passport valid for at least 6 months from the time of entry

    Travelers need a valid passport to enter Costa Rica. The traveler's passport must remain valid for at least 6 months after the traveler arrives in Costa Rica.

    Departure tax may be required for travelers exiting Costa Rica

    Air travelers are required to pay a departure tax when exiting Costa Rica. Most airlines include this departure tax in their airline ticket fees. For travelers flying with airlines that do not cover the departure tax in their airline ticket fees, they will be required to pay USD 29.00 when exiting Costa Rica. If required, travelers can pay the tax at the airport upon departure with United States dollars, Costa Rican colones, credit or debit cards. Travelers can check their ticket receipt to see if the departure tax fee has already been included in their ticket fees.
