Import Promotion Desk sustainable travel expansion now includes Brazil, with new Amazon-region offers set to be presented at ITB Berlin 2026.
Summary: The Import Promotion Desk (IPD) has added Brazil to its sustainable tourism portfolio and will present selected Amazon-region travel offers at ITB Berlin 2026 (3–5 March). More than 30 sustainable tourism partners will be represented at the IPD booth, giving European tour operators a chance to explore new products and destination partnerships.
The Import Promotion Desk is expanding its sustainable tourism work by bringing Brazil into its portfolio of partner countries. The move strengthens the organisation’s focus on responsible travel and on helping European buyers connect with suppliers in developing and emerging destinations.
At ITB Berlin 2026, scheduled for 3 to 5 March, the Import Promotion Desk plans to introduce a set of sustainable travel offers from Brazil, with a particular spotlight on experiences in the Amazon region. The Brazil presentation will sit alongside IPD’s wider tourism promotion activities supporting providers from Ecuador, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Uzbekistan.

Brazil joins IPD portfolio through cooperation with Embratur
Working closely with its Brazilian partner organisation Embratur, the Import Promotion Desk identified tourism companies in Brazil that align with sustainability principles. The selected businesses include operators offering community-based programmes, small-boat river travel, eco-lodge stays, and wellness- and health-oriented itineraries in the Amazon.
One of the participating companies is Poranduba Amazônia, which organises community-based travel programmes in indigenous communities and is positioned as a way for visitors to learn about everyday life in the Amazon region. Another, Amazon Emotions, runs trips along the Amazon River and the Rio Negro using small boats, offering more individualised experiences and overnight stays in an eco-lodge setting.

A third Brazilian participant, Mad Experience, focuses on wellness- and health-oriented travel programmes in the Amazon, adding another product type to the set of offers IPD plans to present at ITB Berlin 2026.
Other destinations highlighted: Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka
Alongside Brazil, the portfolio IPD is bringing to ITB Berlin 2026 is also intended to support tour operators looking to enter or expand in other markets. In Uzbekistan, the destination management company Irene Plus Travel is presented as a quality-oriented and innovative partner for travel along the Silk Road.
IPD noted that Irene Plus Travel is among the few companies in Uzbekistan whose sustainability efforts have been recognised with Travellife Partner Status. In Sri Lanka, IPD highlighted Jaffna Tours & Excursion as a way for tour operators to develop programmes in the country’s northern and north-eastern regions, areas described as having seen limited tourism development so far.
According to the information provided, experiences in Sri Lanka’s north and north-east can include day excursions focused on Tamil culture and visits to family-run palm plantations.
What the Import Promotion Desk does and where it operates
The Import Promotion Desk operates as an initiative to promote imports in Germany and describes its role as connecting small and medium-sized enterprises in selected developing and emerging countries with European importers. Its stated objective is to help partner countries integrate into global trade while contributing to sustainable economic, social and ecological development.
Beyond tourism, IPD also supports small and medium-sized enterprises seeking access to the European Union market and long-term trade relationships. It also works with European partners aiming to build sustainable sourcing and tourism portfolios.
IPD is currently active in 21 countries: Brazil, Cambodia, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nepal, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tunisia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Its sector focus includes fresh produce, natural ingredients for food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, sustainable seafood, cut flowers, sustainable tourism, and digital services and products.
Implementation and funding
The implementation of the Import Promotion Desk is led by sequa gGmbH in cooperation with the German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services Association. The initiative is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Why this matters for travelers and the travel industry
For travelers, IPD’s expanded sustainable tourism portfolio signals that more structured, sustainability-focused products—particularly in the Amazon region—may become easier to find through European tour operators. For the industry, the ITB Berlin 2026 showcase is a practical marketplace moment: it brings together destination management companies and buyers looking to add responsible travel options and to develop new destination programmes in Brazil and other emerging markets.
